In-Home Safety Assessments for Aging in Place in South Jersey

Feel safer. Move with confidence. Stay independent at home.

Your home should support your independence, not put it at risk. A CAPS Home Safety Assessment finds the fall risks and barriers in your home, and gives you practical, personalized fixes before a problem happens.

Who books a home safety assessment?

  • Adult children planning ahead for a parent who wants to stay in their own home

  • People coming home from the hospital or rehab who move differently than before

  • Anyone who wants to stay in their house for good and age in place safely

  • People with a new diagnosis like stroke, Parkinson's, or MS

  • Wheelchair or walker users who can't reach parts of their home

Why a physical therapist, not just a checklist

A contractor sees the house. A physical therapist sees how you move through it. Jaime watches how you get in and out of the shower, up the stairs, and out of bed, then makes recommendations that fit your body, your diagnosis, and your daily routine. Not a one-size-fits-all checklist.

What we look at

  • Stairs, entrances, and thresholds

  • Bathroom safety: tub, shower, and toilet

  • Bedroom, kitchen, and living spaces

  • Lighting, flooring, and loose rugs

  • Getting in and out of bed, chairs, and the car

  • Walkers, canes, wheelchairs, and other equipment

  • Home modifications that could make daily life easier

Common fixes we recommend

  • Grab bars placed where you actually reach, not where they look tidy

  • Threshold ramps so a walker or wheelchair rolls smoothly between rooms

  • Better lighting, especially nightlights on the path from bed to bathroom

  • Removing or securing rugs and cords that catch feet

  • Shower chairs, raised toilet seats, and stair rails sized to you

What you get

  • A 60 to 90 minute in-home visit with a physical therapist and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist

  • A written report with findings, prioritized recommendations, and contractor referrals

  • A follow-up call to answer your questions and talk through next steps

Who you'll see

Your assessment is done by Jaime Pierson, PT, DPT, a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builders.
